With the middle east being in the world's eyes with the world cup being hosted in Qatar, fashion shows and G20 in Egypt, the 2022 Dubai world cup carnival in the UAE, and ambitious projects in Saudi Arabia, The global community is bound to raise questions about the middle east policies and norms on topics like queer rights, Women's right and in general human rights, so let's talk about reproductive rights in the middle east.

to go back a bit in history abortions used to practice in ancient Egypt as well we find proof of this by looking at ancient Ebers papyrus where we find documents of abortion techniques used by pharaohs elsewhere in the middle east ancient Persians found abortion to be a heinous act as they valued the fetus same as a living being.

Current-day abortion laws in the middle east can be pretty regressive but all countries In the MENA area permit abortion if the mother's life is in danger, Tunisia and Turkey have the most progressive abortion laws in the area with abortion being fully legal. Saudi Arabia also is a country where abortion laws are lenient where abortion for a legitimate reason or due to harm to the mother may be performed in the first 40 days of pregnancy. However, receiving an abortion is a very complex process in the state and is even illegal for unmarried women.

unsafe abortions are a very neglected and ignored problem in the MENA region with abortions mainly being criminalized, And data about unsafe abortions is quite limited.
